How to Add Purse Feet to Your Handcrafted Handbags
I love purse feet! Most of the time, they probably don't actually DO a whole lot to protect the bottom of the bag (let's be honest), but they sure do look cute!! I want you to be able to add them to your bags too, because they are SO easy to install.
MATERIALS
First you will need to purchase some feet. You can find them at your local craft/fabric store in the 'handbag hardware' section, or you can also find them online. Search Etsy.com and you will have MORE than enough to choose from. They come in different sizes, styles and color.
Second, you will need a seam ripper. The seam ripper will be the tool you use to cut a tiny slit in the bottom of your bag right where you want to insert the purse feet.
Third, you will need a marking pen, ruler and Fray Stop.
Lastly, you will need A PURSE, of course! Sometimes a pattern will call for you to add the purse feet before you attach your purse bottom...
or after...
Either way, the steps are the same. So, let's just go over the steps in order so you can see how easy this really is.
STEP 1: Retrieve purse bottom, your fabric pen and your ruler and mark where you want your feet to be positioned.
Here I am using a ruler to help me add the feet to the 4 corners of the purse bottom. This is the bag where the pattern calls for me to add the feet after the purse bottom as been sewn in.
STEP 2: Make a tiny slit in your fabric at your mark.
STEP 3: Use some Fray Check on the slits you just made and let it dry. The Fray Check seals the cut edges so they do not fray.
STEP 4: Insert the purse feet into your small holes.
This is what the bottom of your bag will look like on the right side of your bag, after you have inserted the purse feet.
This is what the wrong side of your purse bottom will look like with the foot attached. The feet are secured in place by simply opening up the prongs and flattening them out. (see picture).
That is it!! Have fun adding those cute little feet to your handbags. :)
Blessings,
I'll be linking up to THESE great LINKY PARTIES!
