How to Make a Christmas Ball Wreath with a Coat Hanger

How to Make a Christmas Ball Wreath w/ a Coat Hanger-Gina's Craft Corner

I have been wanting to make one of these weraths for soooooo long!  I finally purchased the balls and went for it.  I am very pleased with the results.  This would make a great hostess gift for that upcoming Christmas party.  This project went together in no time!  Here is what you'll need...

Materials:
Wire Coat Hanger
Hot Glue Gun
50 Shatterproof Ornaments or Glass Balls (I recommend the plastic-just as pretty and easier to store)
Pliers
Wire Cutters
Ribbon

Here is the coat hanger.  Just untwist the top.
I purchased this large package of ornaments from my local craft store.  There are probably 50 in this package.  It was the largest container of balls I could find.  These mixed packages are great because all the thinking is already done for me.

Use the pliers to straighten out any bumpy places...

until you have a nice circle like mine.

(Note: I've seen other tutorials where you leave the hanger hook alone and just make a circle with the bottom portion.  I wanted a bigger circle and I did not want to have to mess with hiding the hook.

Before you begin sliding the balls onto the wire, check to make sure the tops are secure.  This was the only style of ball (see picture below) that I could actually pull the top off of.  So, I hot glued it down.  For all the other balls I just went around the edge of the top with the glue just to make sure they would not fall off down the road.  This step is very important if you are using glass balls.

Begin sliding the balls on the wire in whatever order you would like.

Keep doing this until the wreath is full.

Once you have all your balls on you will then want to secure the ends like so... My husband had to do some wire cutting at this point and twisting with the pliers, but it all went pretty smoothly.  Just watch out for flying wire.

Here is what it looks like!  I'm loving it at this point, but it totally needs some ribbon to finish it off!

Grab some pretty wire ribbon and just weave it in and out of the balls.  I went around two times total.

Here it is all finished!

This wreath is going to a friend!  I can't wait to give it to her today!  Have fun making your wreath.  Send me a note if you have made your own wreath this year.  I would love to see it! :)
