Quick Tip Saturday #4- Custom Bag Strap Equation
(There is an affiliate link in this post)
Good Saturday, everyone!! I missed posting a QUICK TIP last Saturday as my computer was not cooperating. No worries! I'm back today with a great tip for all you "want to be" handbag designers, me included.
I'm always taking notes on how to design your own handbag. I've taken the Craftsy course, I check out books from the library, and I scan the internet. While I do this, I'm constantly jotting down notes in my little sewing notebook. Recently, I realized that I keep coming across little equations to help you figure out how to determine the size of different parts of your bag you are designing. So, I thought I would share with you the ones that I have found.
Today, I will only present one to you, mainly because I can only handle math in small doses! Plus, this is supposed to be a quick tip, so let's get going!
HOW TO CREATE A CUSTOM BAG STRAP FROM FABRIC
This equation will make you a simple strap that is made by folding in the two sides on top of one another and then stitching. (see picture at end of post) NO TURNING REQUIRED!
STEP 1: Cut your fabric and your choice of fusible interfacing to your desired measurements (use equation above).
STEP 2: Next, with your fabric in front of you, begin by folding in the top raw edge in 1" and then do the same with the bottom raw edge.
STEP 3: Finally, fold the entire strap in half lengthwise and you have your beautiful strap, 1-1/2" wide.
STEP 4: Finish up your strap by edge stitching along each side of the strap.
This strap is now ready to be attached to your bag. Yippee!
Have a great day making all those awesome straps! Click HERE to see where I will be linking up this week!
Blessings,
